Beloved husband, father, and professor Dr. Victor Fernando Fontaine entered fully into the presence of the Lord on March 8th, 2023, surrounded by his family at home. He was 88 years old. Victor was born in Santiago, Chile on June 15th, 1934. He attended the University in Fribourg, Switzerland, earning a master’s degree and PhD before following his brother to the United States. While attending UCLA, he earned a master’s in philosophy and an MBA. Victor became the first Director of Placement for the Anderson School of Business.
He and his family settled in Ventura County for the last 40 years. Victor was committed to bettering the lives of others. Awarded a Minority Business Development grant, he started centers in Oxnard and Santa Barbara. He served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and for three years was a Planning Commissioner for the city of Oxnard. In 1991 he became a college professor at Moorpark College, where he taught for 24 years. He absolutely loved teaching and was so happy when students greeted him at restaurants about town. We will always associate stacks of blue books with him.
Victor was a voracious reader, his chair at home often had five or more books he poured over. In addition, he loved classical music and opera. Beethoven’s ninth Symphony always drew a smile throughout. UCLA football was cheered, as was professional golf. Travel with his wife and daughters was a delightful endeavor: touring Europe, South America, Hawaii, and Germany’s Rhine River.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Delfina Fontaine, sister Pini Munoz of Santiago, Chile, and brother Peter Fontaine of Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Fontaine, daughter Vanessa of Moorpark, daughter Jacquelynne and son-in-law, Brian Isaac, of Churchton, Maryland. The family is deeply saddened by the loss of their beloved husband and father.
