Victor Donald Decker, cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, peacefully departed this world on May 27, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on December 11, 1932, Victor, known familiarly as Don, was a man of many talents and passions. Don's service in the Army from 1952 to 1954 was a testament to his patriotism and dedication. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a jack of all trades, excelling as a cabinet maker and senior designer in the aerospace industry. He had a knack for fixing anything that was broken, and a heart as vast as the ocean. A man of boundless generosity and compassion, Don often gifted his brilliant work to those he loved. Whether he was working on one of his awe-inspiring carousels, painting, or carving, everyone admired his craftsmanship and ingenuity. Don had an extraordinary ability to bring beauty to the world around him, whether through his intricate designs or kind and compassionate spirit.
This caring spirit shone brightest through Don’s unwavering dedication to family; a trait which was evident throughout his life. As a devoted family man, Don's cheerful presence brought warmth and comfort to those around him. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life, and his love for them knew no bounds. He shared a special bond with his surviving sisters, Linda (Russ) Herrington and Kay (Bob) Recknor, whose companionship brought him great joy and solace.
Throughout his life's journey, Don faced the pain of loss with remarkable strength and faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Donald Sr., his mother, Mary Ellen Wolcott, his stepfather, John Wolcott, his brother, David Decker, and sister, Patricia Henderson. The loss of his beloved wife, Carol Decker, and sons, Jeff and Victor Decker, weighed most heavily on his heart. Yet, through it all, he remained a pillar of resilience and grace.
Don touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in our hearts. And though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Don is survived by his daughters, Terry Decker and Amy (Jeff) Roper; his grandchildren, Erin (Jess) Van Vuren, Elyssa Van Vuren, Jeremy (Brenda) Decker, Jason (Tammie) Decker, Trisha Decker, Emily and Josh Roper; great-grandchildren, Jared Decker (Jeremy), Jason and Jordan Decker (Jason), and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
As we mourn the loss of Don, let us take comfort in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his beloved wife and sons, enveloped in God’s eternal peace and love. Rest in peace, Dad, knowing that you are cherished beyond measure.
