Thomas William Young, age 38, passed away in his parents' home in Simi Valley on January 22nd. In April, 2019, Tom was diagnosed with Stage IV renal cancer. For the next ten months, Tom fought the disease with courage and dignity. Up until the end, he maintained the hope that a cure would be found.
Tom was born on January 17th, 1982 in Westlake Village, CA. He grew up in Simi Valley and attended Simi Valley schools. He graduated from Simi Valley High School in 2000 and then attended the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in computer science and molecular and cell biology. In 2006, Tom relocated to southern CA and lived in West Los Angeles until his illness. Tom had a lifelong passion for computers and technology and spent his professional career as a web developer. At the time of his death, he was employed at .XYZ, a tech company in Santa Monica.
Tom enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of the Dodgers, the Lakers, the 49ers and the Cal Bears. His many interests and hobbies included reading, computer games, cooking, biking, golfing and fishing with his dad.
Tom will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was a kind, generous, gentle soul with a quick wit and disarming smile. He was passionate about social justice and was a champion of those less fortunate. He had an insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge and loved to share his opinion on all topics.
Tom is survived by his parents, Thomas and Kay Young of Simi Valley, a sister, Julie Young of San Jose, CA, an aunt, Janice Johnson of San Diego, an uncle, Jim Honzay of Spicer, MN, and many cousins.
A service will be held on Monday, February 24th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Simi Valley.
