Sandra Dale Mamalias, 78, passed away October 13, 2021, at her daughter’s and son-in-law’s home in Simi Valley, California, after a devastating and painful battle with Cancer. Sandra spent her last days under Brooke and Jason’s loving care and her last breaths next to Larry, her husband.
Born January 19, 1943, in Los Angeles, California to Mildred and Kenneth Mcquillin, Sandra grew up along with her younger brother, Monte. One of the most cherished stories of Sandra’s childhood was her love for her flower girl role in weddings. As a young adult, she spent a few years in Hawaii, where she met Larry Mamalias, a bohemian musician who later became Sandra’s husband and father of her only child. Sandra’s love for animals led her to manage a small farm where she produced goat’s milk and cheese, for household consumption, at her home in Lake Los Angles in the 80s.
Sandra was a devoted Christian and attended the Church of Religious Science, gained the knowledge to provide faith-based youth counseling Services, and became Reverend. At the age of 57, she earned her Bachelors's degree in psychology at the University of Massachusetts. While attending school, Sandra participated in an exchange student program in Europe, where lifelong friendships were born. Following her studies, she became a Special Education teacher for grades 5 through 8 at Los Angeles Unified School District.
Sandra’s way of life heavily involved spirituality and religion, and she became an ordained Buddhist Nun in 2016 and followed Tich Nhat Han’s teachings. Sandra was devoted to meditation, and she dressed in Sacred Kasaya robes. Although she had many mundane attachments, she did remove herself from anything that would violate the Buddhism monk rules.
Survived by her daughter Brooke Anderson, husband Larry Mamalias, estranged brother Monte Euler, and son-in-law Jason Anderson, Sandra will be eternally missed and remembered with immense love.
