Robert Bartlett

December 2, 1946 — December 1, 2014

On December 2, 2014, Robert Alan Bartlett passed away peacefully in his home in Simi Valley. He was born December 3, 1946, and passed the day before his 68th birthday. In the last two weeks of his life he enjoyed a trip to Las Vegas for a family wedding. He enjoyed a wonderful family Thanksgiving feast and later that week watched football games with his dog Oscar and nephew Paul. After enjoying a home cooked meal and supervising the trimming of the Christmas tree, he retired for the evening and slipped away during the night.
Robert was born in Santa Monica, moved to Inglewood and later Granada Hills, where he graduated from high school. He developed Type 1 diabetes at age 6 and worked through many health challenges during his lifetime. Robert worked at many jobs including Sportcoach Motor Home Company and Lockheed Industries. He later moved to Simi Valley where he graduated from Moorpark College with a degree in horticulture. He loved his plants, trees and garden and was eager to offer his knowledge to anyone who wanted help.
Robert was an active volunteer. He taught leather craft to children's groups. He spent over a thousand hours volunteering at the Special Awareness Computer Center at the Simi Valley Hospital. He taught gardening to seniors in a care facility in Simi Valley and he was known for his shish kabobs at Moorpark College fundraisers. In 1978, Simi Valley elected him to the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District where he served for four years.
Robert was an active member of Simi Valley First Christian Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Anne Bartlett, and his brothers, Thomas and Ronald Bartlett. He is survived by his four nephews, Andrew Bartlett,& Quinn Grove, Paul Bartlett, and Neal Bartlett, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Bartlett.
