Richard Lee Laier, 86, of Simi Valley, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 in Simi Valley. Richard was born on February 8, 1929 in Grants, New Mexico to David and Audrey Laier. A Korean War veteran, Richard served in the United States Army between 1950 and 1952, upon which he received an honorable discharge. After graduating from UCLA in 1957, he began his career as an engineer for the aerospace industry, and continued on a career path that culminated in the position of sales and marketing director serving a broad array of technical sectors and products. Richard held the position of president of the North Hollywood chapter of the Lion's Club during the late 1960's and early 1970's. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, both as spectator and as a participant, and enjoyed an occasional game of bowling or tennis. Most of his sporting activities, however, were focused on golf and automobile racing, the latter of which was highlighted by garnering a track championship at the Antelope Valley Raceway in 1982. Although he retired from his racing activities at the end of the 1980's he continued to enjoy playing golf for many years to follow. Recently Richard spent much of his time building computers and, most importantly, relaxing and enjoying time with his family. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Donna;3 daughters, Cindy Lee Butcher(Russ),Sheila Anne Fischenich(Rick) and Sue Jean Odom;son, Gary Eugene Laier(Vicky);6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Simi Valley United Methodist Church in Simi Valley.
