Rembert Joseph Torgerson was born February 13, 1932 in Los Angeles, CA and
passed away June 3, 2015 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Rem
attended Canoga Park High School, followed by four years in the Navy where he
served on the U.S.S. Chourre during the Korean War. Returning from the Navy he
met his wife of 56 years, Virginia, and they settled in Simi Valley, CA where he
owned Scotty's Tavern for a time, after which, Rem operated a carpet business
and flipped homes before flipping was popular. Rem retired from the carpet
business in 1990 and was then able to follow his dreams, enjoying his retreat at
Lake Mead, RVing across country and enjoying many cruises abroad. He loved to
camp, fish and enjoyed water skiing back in the day. If you weren't up by the
crack of dawn, you were "burnin daylight". Above all, he lived for his family,
was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife,
Virginia Mae Sohler Torgerson, his children, Karen Bennis, Jack Torgerson,
Colleen Woods and Frank Torgerson, his sister, Dorothy Post, and grandchildren,
Whitney Bennis, Caitlyn Bennis, Amy Bennis, Jake Torgerson, Michael Woods,
Callie Torgerson and Emily Torgerson, his dear friends, Burl Royal and Jim
Farpella, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rem was the youngest son of Roy
Torgerson and Lula Irene Blackburn Torgerson. His parents and brothers Raleigh
Torgerson, Roland Torgerson, Jim Torgerson and sisters Pearl Minnick and Leona
Skiles preceded him in death. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. There will be a visitation on Saturday, June 6 from 10am-11am with service beginning at 11am at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home with interment to follow immediately at Oakwood Memorial Park.
