In Loving Memory of Peter Courtney Grace
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Peter Grace, a cherished husband, devoted father, who peacefully departed this world on October 13, 2024, at the age of 63.
Born on September 11, 1961, in Boston, Massachusetts, Peter was the oldest of five children to Karl A. Grace and Jeanne Hannon Grace. He shared countless memories with his brothers Matthew, Andrew, Jerome and his sister Coco; plus many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Peter was a very bright student, he graduated from Thayer Academy in Braintree Massachusetts. Peter studied Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Peter earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry from UMASS Amherst. Peter received a Certification in Project Management from UCLA.
Peter was an active member of the church being a Lectern and a member of the Choir, he was a Knight of Columbus being a member of Councils 5803 & 9410 in Simi Valley CA.
Peter had many interests, Science Fiction, hiking, camping, cycling, rocketing, Amateur Radio (callsign AI6PG) and Boy Scouts. Peter was always looking for new things to learn and teach his children and others. Peter loved the Grateful Dead and would proudly tell you he attended 126 of their shows.
Peter left the Biochemistry field for Finance and IT. He worked for 19+ years at Fidelity Investments in Boston MA holding several positions including System Analyst and Project Manager. He moved to Simi Valley, CA in 2004 when he was given an opportunity he couldn't resist at Amgen. He then worked for HealthNet and several contracts as a System Analyst and/or Project Manager. Peter retired in October 2015, when he was diagnosed with Frontaltemporal Dementia.
On August 12, 1995, Peter married the love of his life, Joyce Carroll. Together, they created a beautiful family, welcoming 3 children Edwin, Allen (Eleanor), and Joey (Niall). The Grace family was active in Science Fiction Fandom attending conventions all over the country. All of the children were involved in Scouting at one time, with Peter being the director of the Boy Scout Day Camp in 2005. Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; children Edwin, Allen, and Joey; his brothers Matthew, Andrew, and his sister Coco. Peter is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerome.
A Funeral service will be held on October 30, starting at 10 AM at Saint Peter Claver Church, 2370 Stow St, Simi Valley, CA 93063. Family and friends are invited to Reardon Family Mortuary, 2636 Sycamore Dr., Simi Valley, CA 93065 after the Funeral Service for refreshments and to share stories about Peter. We will carry his memory with us, grateful for the time we shared.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, they kindly ask that donations be made in Peter's honor to the ALS Association at www.als.org
