Ona McGovern

Ona May McGovern passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living in Frederick, MD on April 20, 2021. She was the daughter of Orla (nee Clevenger) and Henry Sharp. Ona was born April 2, 1923 and grew up in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1941 and joined the Navy where she met John Patrick McGovern. They married in 1945. She had six children and is survived by five: John Henry, Mary Ann, James Patrick, Kathleen Mary, and Thomas Joseph. A son, Timothy Michael died in 2006. She has 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Ona and John raised their children in Kansas City, MO and Langley Park, MD. After John's retirement in 1977, they moved to Simi Valley, California. They were active in St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and donated regularly to help build the new church. Ona had a group of Simi friends with whom she met regularly at the local McDonald's. She lived a happy and peaceful life in Simi Valley and remembered it fondly after moving into Sunrise Assisted Living, Frederick, MD.
A brief grave-side service will be held at her internment at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley, California on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
