Nelda Foxworth

Nelda Jean Foxworth, age 81, passed away peacefully on April 2nd, 2022 at her home with family beside her. She had been in the loving care of her son Curtis for more than three years after suffering a stroke, dementia, and cancer, and was in hospice until her passing.
Nelda was born in Fortworth, Texas on April 15th, 1940 to Otha Bridges Wood and Delora Wood. When she was a teenager, she went on a blind double date with her friend, and met Gerald Foxworth. The two fell in love, and when Nelda’s family moved to California, she, at just 16 years old, moved all the way back to be with Gerald. The two were married in Fortworth in April of 1956. Gerald was in the military and during his service the family spent time living in Delaware, Hawaii, Texas, and California.
In 1969, Nelda moved with Gerald and their four children to Simi Valley, California, where they would live until 2001, when she and her husband moved to Arizona to help raise and care for two of their grandsons. She once traveled to New York City with her mother to see her aunt Katherine, and visited the Statue of Liberty, which she said had “too many steps.” She brought home her aunt’s special cheesecake recipe, and the family called it “the best cheesecake around.”
Nelda knew Christ as her savior, and attended Calvary Baptist Church under Pastor Dennis Chapman, who, after many years of prayer, led her husband Gerald to the Lord. She loved reading the scriptures from her bible, and enjoyed listening to hymns, and country gospel music. She raised four children and was always ready to help with the care of her grandchildren. She liked apples and sunflowers.
Nelda’s love was for her family, and she will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
Nelda is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Foxworth, who passed in 2019, and her great grandson James Micheal Winfrey, who passed in 2017. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Ramirez. Her children, Kelly Cook, Gerald Foxworth Jr, Curtis Foxworth, and Michael Foxworth. Her grandchildren Sherie Minassian, Candice Cook, Cassandra Winfrey, Christina Foxworth, Gerald Foxworth III, Samantha Foxworth, Elijah Foxworth, Torriean Ready, and Joshua Ready. Her great grandchildren Tyler, Trevor, and Travis, Gabriel, Kali and Emma, Corbin, Eva, Nellie, and Ethan. Her brother-in-law Freddie Ramirez. Her Son-in-law James Cook. Her Daughters-in-law Stacy Foxworth and Lisa Foxworth. Her nephews and niece Tim May and Ken May, and Leisa Martinez. Her cousin Patricia, and other cousins, great, great grandchildren, great nieces, and great nephews.
