Mary Ann Hovanec

August 28, 1932 — January 11, 2023

Mary Ann Hovanec Passed Away suddenly on 01/11/23 due to complications surrounding the vaccine. She will always remain in our hearts.
Born on August 28,1932 to Annette and Nicholas Astorino in Brooklyn New York. Soon after, her parents moved to New Jersey, where her brother Peter Astorino was born. She met Williaam Hovanec who she married. And they had Three daughters, Kathleen born on June 28, 1957, Linda born June 14, 1958 and me, Julie Born on March 29, 1961. Shortly after Kathleen was born, they followed her parents to California. The entire Hovanec family of 5 moved to Simi Valley in 1969 to their home on Justin Ave.
Mary Ann was employed as a secretary for the Simi Valley Police Department under Lieutenant Jon Ainsworth. She loved her job and found many lifelong friends during her employment, one being Lieutenant Jon who Organized her big retirement party after 17 years with the department. One of her favorite things to do was go out to eat with the girls from work. Those girls remained good friends even after retirement, and their lunches continued. She loved Bowling and playing cards. In fact, a lot of family gatherings ended in poker games. And her and my father faithfully attended poker night every Friday night at a friend’s house for over 25 years. She also loved spending time with her grandkids and playing rummy with her daughters. Little did I know she loved the water, as she put it. So, I bought her a bathing suit last Summer and took her swimming at the age of 90 for the first time in probably 50 years. She was so happy in the pool grinning from ear to ear. I do so miss you., mom.
Mary Ann was widowed following my father's Williams death on 01/05/2002. She was also predeceased by Her mother and father Annette and Nicholas Astorino, and Her half-sister Ethel Manza.. She was faced with tragedy following her daughter Linda's death on June 25th 2015. But she was a strong woman and kept forging ahead. She lost her brother Peter in February 2021. May she rest in peace. She was survived by her daughter Kathleen Pilgram her husband Mark Pilgram and 2 grandchildren Nic and Jessica Pilgram. And finally, her daughter Julie, who came to live with her about a year ago to be her caregiver and her best friend and loving daughter until her passing. I LOVE YOU MOM, until we meet again.
