Long-time Simi Valley resident and community volunteer Margaret Heaney Kipp passed

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Elisa and Robb Hastings of Anaheim, son and daughter-in-law David and Karen Kipp of Grass Valley, CA and her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Alex Iles of Glendale. Also surviving are grandsons Adam Kipp, Zachary Jacobson, and Trevor Hastings and great-granddaughter, Roxanne Hastings. Mrs. Kipp was born Margaret Elizabeth Heaney on April 11, 1928 in Staten Island, NY to Irish immigrant parents James Albert and Elizabeth B. Heaney. The family lived in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, where her father James was a pharmacist and the family ran their own pharmacy on Main Street. Margaret entered nursing school after WWII where she met her husband, Charles. They married in 1949. She began her nursing career in the Veteran’s Administration as well as other nursing duties.
Throughout the next few decades they moved from NY to CA and back again, during which they had three children, Elisa, David and Sandra. Margaret went back into nursing in 1966 at Camarillo State Hospital, the former state mental institution and remained there until she retired in 1994.
When she retired, Margaret became involved in several volunteer organizations, including working with the homeless in Simi Valley and Ventura County. She was also active in raising funds for several foundations, including those for animal welfare, international children in need and veteran’s affairs.
Margaret was gifted in arts and crafts and created dolls of all shapes and sizes. She could paint and draw and her calming and colorful garden was admired by many.
Everyone she met along the way think of her with great fondness and affection. Her life will be remembered and celebrated at a memorial service on January 21, 2017 at 2 PM at Reardon Funeral Home, 2636 Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93065.
