Lucille Rita Korta
Heaven has a new angel and her name is Lucille, Butch, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma Lou, Sis, Aunt Lou, and Toots.
Lucille Rita Korta, age 93, passed away peacefully on June 29 with her family close at hand. She was born on December 29, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of Lucy and Frank Pugel.
Mom’s 93 years were full of adventure. After graduating from Peabody High School, she met the love of her life, Eddy. She had always been curious about what the world looked like outside of Pittsburgh, so with $200 in her purse, the newlyweds boarded a Greyhound bus to Southern California where they started their family. She made friends everywhere she went and her face lit up no matter what time of the day company came calling.
Lucille’s love of travel took her and Ed to Europe and abroad many times. The highlight of these trips was meeting her mother’s family in Slovenia.
There was nothing more important to Lucille than her family and friends. How many cupcakes, camping trips, and card games we enjoyed! She was never without her camera, stopping traffic to capture any rainbows crossing her path.
Lucille is survived by her true love and husband of 70 years, Ed; daughter, Janice and her husband Tom Brown; son, Keith Korta and his fiancé Kathie Peterson; daughter, Dianne and her husband Michael Hebert; three beautiful granddaughters, Christina, Danette, and Lindsay; four adorable great-grandsons, Mason, Marcus, Jack, and Nicholas; her brother, Frank Pugel and his wife Katie; and their children, Patty, Karen, Rick, and Kathleen.
The celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9th at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home, 2636 Sycamore Dr., Simi Valley CA.
