In Loving Memory of Joseph Lawhorn Sr.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joseph Lawhorn Sr., who departed this life on March 12, 2025, at the age of 71. A beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, Joseph was known for his kindness, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Joseph was born on November 7, 1953, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Tommie Lawhorn and Betty Perdue Lawhorn. He was raised in Fort Deposit, Alabama (Lowndes County), where he embraced his faith early in life as a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
A trailblazer in education, Joseph was the first African American male to graduate from the once-segregated Lowndes County High School in 1971. He continued his pursuit of knowledge, earning a Bachelor of Science in Management Science from State University of New York at Buffalo and later obtaining an MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
Joseph's career was marked by dedication and integrity. He worked tirelessly, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his professional achievements, he will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and the love he poured into his family.
Joseph's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted father to his three children: Joseph Lawhorn Jr., Erin Brooke Lawhorn (Edwards), and Brooke Kyla Lawhorn. He cherished his time with them and took great pride in their accomplishments.
He was one of eight siblings, sharing an unbreakable bond with his brothers and sisters. He is survived by Margaret Ann Lawhorn, Rufus Lee Lawhorn Sr., and Tommy Lawhorn. He was preceded in death by Bettie Christine Lawhorn (Wilson), Carl Lawhorn Sr., Bobby R. Lawhorn, and Eva Louise Lawhorn (Smith).
Joseph's presence was a source of comfort and strength to all who knew him. His laughter, wisdom, and kind heart will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on March 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home in Simi Valley, California.
Joseph will be laid to rest in Fort Deposit, Alabama, where final arrangements will be handled by Phillips-Riley Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama.
