John McDermott

John Flint McDermott, age 78, from Simi Valley CA, passed away unexpectedly on 5/24/23 while on vacation in Tampa, Florida. He was the husband of Jill McDermott. They just celebrated 56 years of marriage in May.
Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1945, he was the son of John and Byrne McDermott. After graduating from St Francis De Sales High school in 1962, he joined the Army and served for 3 years. He moved to California and graduated from Northrup Institute of Technology in 1967. He was then employed as an airline mechanic with Continental Airlines for 17 years before becoming an airline inspector and consultant.
John moved to Simi Valley with his lovely wife in 1970. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus Council 5803 in Simi for over 40 years and was active in both St. Rose of Lima and St. Peter Claver Churches. He loved to camp, fish, work on cars and spend time with his friends, neighbors and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his shenanigans and working in his garage.
He is survived by his wife Jill; daughter Diane McCurdy (Wally) of Tampa FL; daughter Donna Phipps (Andrew) of Simi Valley CA; daughter Denae Adair (Eric); Sister Kathy Deluca (Allen) of Murrells Inlet, SC; sister Maureen Gnipp (Jerry) of Pittsburgh PA; Grandchildren Cade, Johnny, Patrick, Logan, Brittney, Haley, Aiden, Dylan, Ethan and Gavin; many cousins, nieces and nephews
The funeral service will be held at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church on June 9, 2023 at 11am with interment at Assumption Catholic cemetery immediately following.
