JEROME LOUIS SITKO
March 22, 1945 ~ January 28, 2023
Jerome (Jerry) Louis Sitko of Northridge, California passed away at home on January 28, 2023
with his wife Ruth Anne by his side.
Jerry was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Mary and John Sitko. He was the second of 5 children. Jerry grew up in
Ft. Wayne attending St. Hyacinth Elementary School and Central Catholic High School. He continued his education at Purdue University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Computer Science,
He graduated June 4, 1967.
Following graduation he worked as a Computer Programmer for Beloit Corporation in Wisconsin until he was drafted by the Army in February 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was scheduled for deployment when the Pentagon called asking him to work at Fort Ord Military Base in California as a Mathematician-Statistician Assistant for The US Army Combat Developments Experimentation Command. He always said that was a lucky break. He performed mathematical analysis of experiments and designed information storage and retrieval systems. He often talked about the experiments that were done on Night Vision Goggles which were just being implemented. He was Honorably Discharged in February 1970.
Following his discharge he worked for NCR Corporation in San Diego. In 1972 he moved to Los Angeles where he worked for Hydril Oil Company and later M.J. Brock and Sons, Inc. and Winston Tire Company. He attended UCLA from 1974-1976 earning a Professional Designation in Management Information Systems. From 1987 until his retirement in 2010, he was a Senior Systems Analyst for The Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA-LA).
Jerry met his wife Ruth Anne Berkness in 1972 and they married September 16, 1973. They had two children, John and Julie Anne. Jerry loved his family, always involved in his children's activities. He loved football games, traveling, camping and sailing, Church activities and spending time partying with family and friends. After retirement he did volunteer work for Lutheran Social Services and Northridge West Operation Clean Sweep (keeping the Community clean).
He is survived by his wife Ruth Anne Sitko, his children John Sitko (Quin) and Julie Anne Sitko, Grandchild Issac Sitko, two sisters, Judy Tomasello (Ron) & Jeannie Hathaway, brother Stan Sitko (Toby), Cousin Claire Vida. He was preceded in death by brother Richard Sitko.
A Memorial Service will be held July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
