JAMES HENRY ARNOLD
1922-2021
It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Great-Great Grandfather James Henry Arnold who was called home to be with his Savior on July 8, 2021 at the age of 99.
Jim was a California native, born in Los Angeles on February 27, 1922 to James and Lucille Arnold. After attending high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and proudly served his country in WWII. He was assigned to the Naval Amphibious Forces and served on the USS Mount Vernon where he manned a landing craft when transporting troops.
After the war he worked for Standard Oil in their El Segundo, California refinery and also managed Standard Oil service stations within Los Angeles. Eventually Jim owned and operated several Chevron stations in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Later in life Jim worked in retail sales and also enjoyed riding motorcycles well into his 80’s.
Jim married his sweetheart Theodora Mae Parker in 1942 and they lived in the Los Angeles area until 1971 when they moved to Simi Valley, California.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Theodora “Teddy”, infant son Jimmie, and sister Doris Knight.
He is survived by his Children; Charlotte Norton, Bud Arnold (Joan), David Arnold (Alice) and Grandchildren Rodney Norton, Shawn Norton, DJ Arnold and Meaghan Arnold. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A military memorial service will be held Friday August 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Los Angeles, interment will follow the service.
