Frank Castorena (fondly known as Paco to many), age 90, of Simi Valley, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
Frank was born at home in Los Angeles, California, on April 21, 1932, to Genaro and Amada (Reyes). On February 16, 1952, Frank married Emily Carlos. He was drafted into the Army in March 1953 at Fort Ord and served in the Korean War until coming home in December 1954.
After returning from service, Frank and Emily started their family, moved from Los Angeles to Simi Valley, and started working for Sawyer Cabinets in Sylmar, California. In 1982, Frank took a job in the Public Works Department for the City of Thousand Oaks where he retired in 1997.
Frank enjoyed camping with his children and grandchildren at the beach, going to Dodger games and mostly enjoyed spending time with all his family and loved ones during holidays and family gatherings. We will greatly miss Paco and will always remember him for his witty sense of humor.
Frank was predeceased by both parents and his wife, Emily in 1998. Survivors include sisters, Delores Ruiz, Mary Lopez and Elizabeth (Robert) Brito, brothers, Jerry (Carolyn) and Larry (Carol). He leaves behind his five children; son Frank Jr. of Akron, Ohio, son Ernie (Lisa) of Tehachapi, son, George (Sheri) of Simi Valley, daughter Teresa Tichy of Palmdale and son Thomas (Donna) of Tehachapi. Frank also leaves behind nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the staff at Ivy Park Assisted Living (formerly The Foothills) in Simi Valley for the excellent care and compassion they showed Frank for the past four years. It takes a special person to care for those in their twilight years. Special thanks to Vana Dunn for doing so much for Frank and the family. We would also like to thank the staff at Simi Valley DaVita for the excellent care they gave Frank during the past 4 ½ years.
