Easter Runkle

April 23, 1916 — January 10, 2016

Easter Runkle, 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, January 10th at Simi Valley hospital. Easter was born April 23, 1916 in San Juan Capistrano to Joseph and Jessie Griset. She was the third born of seven children. She graduated from Simi Valley High School where she enjoyed playing many sports. In 1939, Easter married James Runkle of the early pioneer ranching family. They were married for 52 years. Easter was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who loved cooking and always welcomed friends and family into their home. They enjoyed traveling abroad in their later years with the Western Livestock Tour Group. Easter’s avid love and interest in sports continued throughout her life. Even in her late 90’s she enjoyed attending games and was always eager to hear the outcome and details of her great grandchildren’s games. She was so admired by all who knew her for her wisdom, grace, kindness, strength and loving ways. The love and support she generously provided for her family will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Moore (Richard), Helen Runkle Johnson and Barbara Kelley (Ralph). Six grandchildren Mimi Fox, Tiffany Donovan, Patrick Moore, Melissa Diaz, Jill Kauffroath and Karen Fontes. Twelve great grandchildren. As well as10 neices and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Adventist Health Hospice at Simi Valley Hospital.Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth on Friday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m.
