Obituary:
Dorothy Jeanette Hines, known lovingly as Dot, passed away peacefully on May 10,2024, in Simi Valley, CA. She was born on January 19, 1924, in Aurora, IL, to the late Verena Miller Schiltz and Henry Schiltz.
Her life was one filled with dedication and love. She started working at a drycleaning company in Aurora, IL during high school. She later worked for Amphenol Electronics in CA. Alongside her beloved husband, Richard William Hines, she proudly owned D&R Machine in Placentia, CA.
She treasured her family and faith above all else. She is survived by 4 of her 6 children: Constance Cole Ritch, Karen Ellen Adams (Chuck), Patricia Louise Carley (Alan), Daniel John Hines (Denise), 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great great-grandchildren. Her unwavering love for her family and faith radiated through everything she did.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard William Hines; daughter, JoAnn Dorothy Benegas; and son, Michael Charles Hines; brothers: Alvin Schiltz, Robert Schiltz, Joseph Schiltz; sister, Louise Miller.
In her spare time, she found joy in many activities. Christmas Cookie care packages were a staple on Christmas Eve, after many weeks of diligent baking. She was often assisted in the early years by her grandchildren who learned to bake alongside her. She loved preparing food for family dinners and picnics. Her hobbies included gardening (there wasn't anything she couldn't grow.) She loved bowling and traveled to tournaments with her daughters. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the Church choir. She enjoyed Scrabble, Yahtzee, baking, sewing, embroidery, and creating beautiful wedding cakes for her family. She had a love for hummingbirds and butterflies and enjoyed shopping.
A Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 at St Peter Claver Catholic Church in Simi Valley. Mass will begin at 10:00 AM and immediately followed by a reception. The burial service will be Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange CA at 12:00pm. She will be buried alongside her husband.
Dorothy Jeanette Hines will forever be remembered for her kindness, unwavering love for family, and the legacy of warmth she leaves behind. May she rest in peace knowing that she was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
