Our beloved mother, Carlyn Edith Olson-Paterson, passed away from heart failure on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in Simi Valley, California. She was 85 years old.
Olson-Paterson was born March 4, 1937, in Norfolk, Virginia, the third child of Marion and Carl Olson. Her father was a Navy man and they moved to San Diego California before her teenage years. She then moved to Culver City, California before moving to Victorville, California to attend high school.
Olson-Paterson wore many hats throughout her amazing lifetime—bartender, waitress, 1963 and 1964 U.S. Women’s National and World Champion sky diver, movie stunt double, administrative secretary of Superior Gunite Pools in North Hollywood, Amway representative, realtor, and senior vice president of A-American Storage in Los Angeles before retiring in 2010. She also served on the executive board of the Edmund C. Olson Trust.
But her most important role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Thomas J. Paterson in May of 2012. Her sister Sally A. Jordon also preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by her four adult children Pamela Henley, Cindy Weening, Robin Weening and Richard Paterson. She is survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, all grandsons, and many nieces and nephews. She is survived also by her older brother Edmund C. Olson.
Olson-Paterson loved to travel and has traveled to many places around the globe. She especially loved to travel with family and friends to destinations like Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. She loved to garden and read in her later years.
She was kind, generous and strong and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
A small memorial service in her honor, with family and friends, will be held at Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary in Simi Valley, CA 93065.
