Carlos Noyola

April 1, 1931 — December 12, 2022

Carlos Noyola -1931 - 2022
Carlos Noyola, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, passed away peacefully in Simi Valley, California with his family by his side on December 12, 2022 at the age of 91. He would have turned 92 on April 1st.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Jose Maria and Socorro Arce Noyola, Carlos grew up with his 2 sisters and 8 brothers. He served in the Marines during the Korean War earning 3 medals. After his service he worked in the Galveston shipyards as a welder, but becoming dissatisfied with the working conditions in the shipyards in Texas, he moved to Hollywood, California and had an apartment in the same building as several of his brothers. Though he ended up leaving Texas for good, he always enjoyed telling stories about growing up in Texas with his family and their small farm and the cow!
For 33 years, Carlos was a dedicated computer programmer at Blue Cross Insurance, where he also met his wife of 58 years, Angela Noyola, in Hollywood, California. When first married, Carlos and Angela lived in an apartment in Glendale, shortly moving to the first home that they owned in Norwalk, California, and later, they moved to Simi Valley, following the Blue Cross move to Woodland Hills. Carlos was very active at St. Rose of Lima Church in Simi Valley, where their 5 children attended elementary school. Carlos joined the Knights of Columbus at St Rose of Lima in Simi Valley and sang in the choir at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Big Bear City, after moving with Angie to this picturesque town in the mountains. He enjoyed being an usher at church for years. He joined the Legion of Mary at St. Joseph’s where he also held the role of President of the Legion for 3 years. Additionally, he volunteered in the Citizen Patrol for both Simi Valley and Big Bear City Sheriff's Office. Carlos enjoyed his retirement years with Angie and the Big Bear community. However, the Covid-19 pandemic helped to prompt the move back to Simi Valley where two of their children were living.
Carlos enjoyed gardening and always had flowers, a vegetable garden and fruit trees. He golfed on his putting green in his yard, and occasionally with his son Richard, when he was visiting. In addition to church choirs, Carlos's musical talents included playing the Spanish guitar, which always delighted his family; playing the piano, which his wife Angela taught him, especially Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata; and singing Frank Sinatra songs, to which he also loved to dance with Angela. He enjoyed working with his hands, building shelving and even a kitchen dinette for their first Simi home, cleaning many a spark plug, fixing many a leak and helping move several of his children multiple times. Carlos was also a perpetual learner and loved to teach his children and grandchildren about numbers, and was also a teacher at LA City College. He read any book he could get his hands on about science, space, or the brain. And he never went a day without doing his sudoku competing with Angela for who could finish the daily puzzle faster.
Carlos is survived by his loving family: wife, Angela Noyola; his five children, Karla Noyola, Sabrina (and Mark) Bertik, Richard Noyola, Tonya (and Drew) Phillips, and Heidi Noyola; grandchildren Tim Noyola (and Brittany) Noyola, Jonathan Noyola, Kenneth McNurney, and Jessie Espera; great grandchildren Ryland and Benjamin; sister, Oralia (Lolly) Noyola; brothers, Bob, Leo, Paul, and Tom (and Mayra) Noyola; niece Emma (and Bruce) Isleib, along with numerous other nieces and nephews. Carlos was preceded in death by his siblings, Juanita “Janie” Noyola Dilworth, Pete, Jesse, Joe and Richard.
