Ana J. Cano passed away peacefully in Simi Valley, on January 28, 2022 at the age of 91.
Ana (also affectionately known as Tatica, Grace, Abuela, and Bita) was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to Rita Aurelia Rodriguez Grau & Garibaldi Grau. She was born 7th out of 10 children.
In 1960, Ana immigrated to the United States to follow her (then) fiancé Maximo A. Cano, who came to the U.S. one year prior. Soon after she arrived to the States, Ana married Maximo and they started their family in Stratford, Connecticut. In 1980, Ana, Maximo and their two daughters left the cold weather and moved to San Jose, California for a job opportunity that her husband had in the West Coast. Ana was a hard working retail sales associate. She retired from Marshall’s Department Store in 1997 and enjoyed her “lifetime employee discount” in the decades that followed. Once Ana and Maximo retired, they moved to Moorpark, in Southern California, to be closer to family.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Ana saw her as lively and energetic, with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved her family and friends deeply. Ana was always full of life and quickly lit up a room with her smile and cheerful laugh. She loved to entertain, cook, play games, decorate her home, and dress up for holidays. Ana loved to travel and was always willing to share stories about her worldly adventures. Ana also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and feeding hummingbirds and finches.
Ana leaves behind her husband of 61 years Maximo A. Cano; daughters Rita Spangler (Steven Spangler) and Alexandra Webster; grandchildren Samantha Edney (Erik Edney), Danielle Spangler (Christopher Samayoa) & Greyson Webster; and great granddaughter Penelope Samayoa.
